As an American Citizen, you have the right to know what is contained within your credit file at any credit reporting agency.

If you want to know what is in your credit file, you must submit a request in writing for your full credit file disclosure from any credit reporting agency holding credit information about you.

You will be required to provide proper identification with your credit file request which may include your home address, date of birth, and social security number.

You are entitled to one (1) FREE credit file disclosure every twelve (12) months provided that you submit your file request in writing to each nationwide credit reporting agency and also from any specialty consumer reporting agency.

In addition, there is no cost for this request if the following conditions exist:

  • You have been denied credit, insurance, employment, or a government benefit or license
  • An unfavorable action was taken against you related to your employment, insurance coverage, or a government benefit or license
  • You applied for credit but the amount or the terms were not what you requested
  • Your credit account was terminated
  • A creditor made unfavorable changes to your credit account but did not change the terms for all, or a substantial of other accounts, of the same type
  • A creditor took an adverse action or made a negative determination towards an application or transaction against your interests
